Initial CPC

The case studies and mod 4 tests are part of the initial CPC - something which all new LGV drivers must complete before they can drive an LGV for commercial gain. Should you be training to drive a vehicle which does not fall under commercial scope (for instance for personal/recreational use) these parts are not required. If you are upgrading from C1 to C/CE or from C to CE you would also probably not require this as you should already hold a valid Driver Qualification Card, providing that your periodic CPC training is up to date. We provide the periodic training also should you require this.

Case Studies test - Part 2

The case studies test covers common scenarios which you will likely encounter whilst working as an LGV driver. You will be given 7 scenarios with between 6 and 8 multiple choice questions for each. There are 50 questions in the initial CPC test and the pass mark is 40/50. You will train for the case studies test via the same method as the theory and hazard perception which is online training with our industry leading partner. We provide you with 6 months access to the training resources so you have plenty of time to train thoroughly. You can complete the part 2 case studies before or after the part 3 driving tests.

Mod 4 practical demonstration test

The mod 4 test is the final part to your initial CPC training to become a fully qualified LGV driver. The test includes questions about vehicle checks, safe loading, vehicle/contents security, preventing criminality and illegal immigrant trafficking, assessing emergency situations and preventing physical risk.

As it's name suggests it is a practical demonstration test, therefore conducted in person with an examiner, a vehicle and some load restraining equipment. The training and test are usually completed on the same day with a few hours training and the test lasting around 30 minutes. You will be tested on 5 topics with 20 points available for each topic. You must score 15/20 on each topic and 80/100 overall.
